A DC circuit drawn as a rectangle. In the left-hand side sits a battery labelled 12 V with its plus plate uppermost and its minus plate below. From the positive terminal the top wire runs right through a horizontal resistor labelled R1 to a node, and continues on to the top right corner. Three branches drop from that top wire to the bottom wire, which returns to the negative terminal: a vertical resistor labelled R2 on the left, a resistor labelled R4 drawn on a slant across the middle of the rectangle, and a vertical resistor labelled R3 at the right-hand edge. All three therefore bridge the same pair of nodes, namely the wire after R1 and the bottom rail.
